Our aim
As well as seeking to provide a really enjoyable time with a wide range of activities, the purpose of these holidays is to encourage Christian character and values. With this in mind there are informal meetings each day which include a short talk explaining the meaning of the Christian faith and its relevance in every day life. Over the years many have expressed their appreciation of the friendly atmosphere and the Christian emphasis of these holidays.
The activities
Sadly it’s impossible to do absolutely everything on offer. There simply isn’t time! But boys and girls can choose from the following adventure activities:
banana boating, canoeing, doughnutting, go-karting, high ropes, paintballing, rafting, horse riding, sailing, target and field archery. In addition we provide a number of home grown activities; particular favourites are: Escape from Colditz, Gladiators, Great Balls of Fire, the Mini World Cup, Ragger and the Wide game. And there is masses to do in and around the well equipped site, including: arts and crafts, cooking, pitch and putt golf, swimming and water slides, tennis, ten pin bowling – as well as lots of expeditions!
History and Organisation
In 1945 The Rev’d RJB Eddison, who had been helping to lead the senior school holiday parties at Iwerne, left to set up similar holidays for prep school aged boys based at Forres School in Swanage. In 1981 he was succeeded by Rev’d T Sterry who moved the holidays to Monkton when the Forres site was closed following the school's merger with Sandle Manor prep school in 1993. In 1999 the holidays became mixed and since 2005 they have been run by Mr James Stileman, who is a member of the Iwerne staff team and an employee of the Titus Trust. In 2008 the holidays moved back to Forres Sandle Manor, the same school where the enterprise began, just a different site.
